DISSERTATION DESIGN

AN ANALYSIS OF SUSTAINABILITY WITHIN A FASHION CONTEXT

2021

CHALLENGE

The challenge for this university project was to design our dissertations within editorial spreads. The spreads needed to represent the topic of the dissertations through a clear style.

CONCEPT

My dissertation looked at sustainability within a fashion context, focusing on environmental impacts, workers rights, redefining the fashion industry and how celebrity endorsements effect sales. My design concept was to use no coloured ink and outline parts of the type to decrease the amount of black ink used, making the piece sustainable. The spreads with colour have been printed on G.F. Smith coloured paper to break up pages, whilst still using less ink. The words which have been outlined aim to explain the fashion industry. The use of the dotted line represents threads used in garments and symbolises how broken and destroyed the fashion industry has become. This changes to a solid line when explaining how the industry could be redefined in order to be more sustainable.
